Looking back: The origin of chess

There is much mystery and conspiracy surrounding the history of chess. There are many countries laying claim to the invention of chess, actually there are not many countries that have not claimed to be the games origin. Countries such as Egypt, china, Greece, Ireland, Uzbekistan and India have all claimed to be the home of this strategic game. When taking the evidence into consideration though it is much more likely that chess originated around the sixth century in India and was slightly altered and perfected in Persia where it then spread to Europe and eventually reached America.

Why it’s so special.

One very obvious and unusual difference between chess and other board games is the lack of a need for dice. Because there are no dice in chess it means that players must rely purely on their skill and strategy rather than the luck of the dice. There is an Indian legend that tells the story of a wise man being approached by the king and asked to make a game for him that would increase his mental power and have no elements of luck involved.

Where’s the proof?

Despite a lot of evidence being available to support the claims that India is in fact the origin of chess it is still a widely disputed topic. As with a lot of popular historic games there are many countries wanting to take claim of the games invention. The Chinese believe that their game known as Go is much better than chess; it is a much older game than chess and is considered by the masses to be more difficult to play. The Chinese are another country claiming that their country is where chess truly originated from stating that their game of Go has been around since 2,000 BC at the very least and also pointing out that just like chess the game of Go does not use any dice. There is a very likely possibility that this game may have inspired chess.

A plausible explanation.

Persia or Iran as you may be more familiar with calling it, claims that the game of chess is actually a derivative of their game of backgammon. The Persians can back up their claims with poems and other written literatures that appear to put the date of the game of chess back further than the Indian version. Although how the game came to be invented and where is still shrouded in mystery and debate, it is quite undeniable that the chess we play today which came to us from Europe was mainly from Persia but where the Persians got their inspiration from for the game is not known.
Could the game of chess really just be a little bit of all of these other board games combined into one game that uses aspects of each game? That is certainly a possibility. Unless more definitive evidence is discovered the true origin of chess may be something that we never uncover. There is no doubt though that the game of chess is a very popular one whether playing online chess or in person against other players, it is a great way to sharpen your wits and have some fun.

Online Chess – Win the Game with These Powerful Moves

The game of chess is loaded with interesting moves. Each move has an important role to play in winning the game. Likewise, every move can affect that flow of the game. Even you have excellent moves in the previous, there’s a huge possibility of losing the game in just a single mistake. In order to will the game, you have to gain an advantage against your opponent all the time. Besides, it’s wise to know powerful moves that can best out play your opponent. Even when playing online chess games, the rules and principles are similar.

There is a special method of notation made in order to organize chess moves. This method really helps in identifying squares without having a chess board and chess pieces to illustrate with. Chess notations make use of columns which are represented by letters on the board and rows that are identified by numbers. if you will take a look at the chess board, you will notice that the leftmost part is the letter “A” and the next one is the letter “B”. On the other hand, the back most part is the number “1” and the next is “2” and so on. In using the method of notation, the left most back will always front at “a1” right? Now let’s see how this method works with powerful moves in chess.

En Passant

Pawns have the lowest amount of points in the game of chess. But then, in “En Passant”, pawns play a vital role. Obviously, a pawn can only capture a piece diagonally. Likewise, a pawn can only move a single square forward. But then, in “En Passant” the pawn can do a special trick. A good example for this is when an opponent’s pawn could have captured and only had a single square to move with, the opponent’s pawn will still be capture.

Castling

Castling is also a powerful move that can be done by a player. This move is a trick that only the king can do. Castling is an excellent move as it increases the king’s safety. As a player, it is advised to castle your king during the opening round or else, you will not do it on the later part of the game. Castling has two options – the short castling and the long castling. Let’s say for example the king white is on e1 together with a white rook on h1 right? A player can do a short castling by moving the King to g1 and the rook on the opposite square which is the f1. The same as in long castling, the king can move to c1 and the rook at d1.

Promotion

In this move, the pawn can be replaced with any useful piece. Most players prefer to replace the pawn with a queen. This powerful move can really change the flow of the game especially when your opponent has no officials in the field, hence you’ll won.

Chess games can’t only be ended with a checkmate. In many instances, the game might end in a draw. this happen when only both kings remain in the field, after the 50 moves or the so-called stale mate and when the opponent has no enough materials to execute checkmate. Over all, knowing the special moves is always important in the game of chess.
